First things First: Why did I choose this book? Many, many reasons is the bold truth. I believe that an in-depth understanding of gender differences is critical for all adults who work with children and adolescents. This in-depth understanding must reflect an awareness of developmental issues. Walla! This book is set up that way. I think Michael Thompson is wise, and it helps that his ongoing career is at an independent boys boarding school. And finally, I heard him present on this topic at NAIS this year to a raucous, appreciative, standing-room only crowd. When he pointed out that we in schools start beating boys up in early childhood with "He's so immature," and "He can't sit still," and continue that song until high school graduation, I realized he was shining a bright light on our possible misunderstanding and ineffectiveness with boys. That leads us to this ... our study will be complete, illuminating, and if we're lucky, transformative. Go to the top of the page and click on the Getting Started button. Please answer the three-question form you find there. On the Reading Assignment page you'll find just that. The other tabs hold other treasures. So, you are ready to Start Reading!
